Asiakkaat kysyvät usein, mitkä kaikki tekijät voivat vahingoittaa auton maalipintaa. Monet pohtivat, voiko sadevesi aiheuttaa vahinkoja, sillä se kerää ilmasta mukaansa kaikenlaiset epäpuhtaudet. Tähän ei kuitenkaan ole yksiselitteistä vastausta.
Vesijäljet ovat yksi yleisimmistä huolenaiheista. Vesi itsessään kyllä haihtuu maalipinnalta, tai miltä tahansa muulta pinnalta, mutta veden seassa ollut pöly tai mineraalit jäävät maalipinnalle ja muodostavat ne epäsiistit vesirinkulat. Normaalisti veden haihtumisen jättämät jäljet eivät vahingoita autoa, ne vain peittävät maalipinnan upean kiillon. Vesirenkuloiden ei kannata antaa kertyä ja pinttyä maalipintaan, sillä mitä enemmän niitä on, sitä enemmän on epäpuhtauksia auton maalipinnalla. Ja mitä pidempään ne saavat pinttyä, sitä vaikeampaa niitä on poistaa. Etenkin kesällä ja syksyllä sataa usein, joten auto tulisi pestä säännöllisesti minimissään parin viikon välein.
Jos lika tai vesisateen jättämät jäljet ovat jo ehtineet pinttymään, eikä perusteellinen käsinpesu auta, kannattaa autolle tehdä kevyt savihionta-käsittely tai kokeilla poistaa likaa kevyesti hankaavalla puhdistavalla pikavahalla.
Entäpä sitten happosade? Suomessa ilmansaasteet eivät ole ongelma, mutta täälläkin ilmassa on enemmän epäpuhtauksia tiheämmin asutuilla alueilla. Happosateelta voi suojautua hyvän vahan tai kestopinnoitteen avulla. Kovavaha tai kestopinnoite suojaa auton maalipintaa ilmansaasteilta, ehkäisee vesirenkaiden ja kalkkijäämien muodostumista sekä helpottaa auton puhtaanapitoa. Kaiken lisäksi auto vielä kiiltää upeasti.
